A cat given one last chance by a rescue that said yes when everyone else said no has spent nearly two years waiting for a forever home, and she has never once stopped being exactly who she is.

When AMA Animal Rescue, out of Brooklyn, NY, received an urgent call about a cat at Animal Care and Control (AC&C) who was struggling to breathe and scheduled for euthanasia. The rescue was closed for intake at the time. They asked if other partners could help. None could.

The next call made the situation clear: it was either a yes from AMA Animal Rescue or it was over for this cat. They said yes.

“This sweet girl had only an hour left at AC&C before euthanasia when we pulled her,” AMA Animal Rescue shared with LoveMeow. “She was fighting for every breath through a severe asthma attack. We rushed her to the emergency hospital, where she spent a few days in an oxygen tank to stabilize.”

From there, the road back was steady and deliberate. Seneca was prescribed a nebulizer and given the time she needed to heal. “After over a month on it, she’s been symptom-free,” the rescue shared. Her asthma is now well managed and has not slowed her down in the slightest.

What emerged from those early weeks of care was a cat with a personality that stopped everyone in their tracks.

Seneca is affectionate, silly, and endlessly entertaining. She meows to remind you that hand pets are overdue. She play-fights like a champion, offering a gentle nibble before rolling onto her back to present her round, cuddly belly for admiration. She chases her tiny toy fish with the focus of a cat who has very serious business to attend to. She also, according to the rescue, serves a new pose, as if it is a photoshoot every single time a camera appears.

“She’s the epitome of a couch potato and a lap cat,” AMA Animal Rescue shared with LoveMeow. It is hard to argue with that assessment, looking at the evidence.

For Seneca, rest is not a casual activity. It is a lifestyle. She has been spotted draped across a sunny windowsill with her legs dangling off the edge, and stretched out completely flat on a warm patch of floor as if she has nowhere else to be and no particular interest in being there anyway. When the sun moves, Seneca moves with it. She has this figured out.

She brings the same enthusiasm to her waking hours, too, approaching every pot of cat grass with her tongue already out, fully committed before she has even arrived.

Seneca is six years old, puzzle smart, and entirely unbothered by the concept of personal space when it comes to the people she loves. She has spent time around other cats and handled them without complaint. She also has a particular fondness for Churu treats, sunbeams, and blankets, and will make her preferences known with a meow that leaves very little room for misinterpretation.

And yet, despite everything she has to offer, nearly two years have passed since her rescue without a single adoption application.

It is the part of her story that is hardest to make sense of. Seneca is the cat who holds her toy mouse with a paw as if she is guarding a treasure. She is the cat who peeks out from her cubby on the cat tree with an expression that suggests she has been waiting for you specifically. She is the cat who emerged from a Valentine’s Day kissing booth surrounded by pink balloons, looking completely unbothered and entirely in her element.

She has been spoiled, photographed, celebrated, and loved by everyone around her. What she has not had is a home of her own.

Her asthma is controlled and well-managed, requiring no more than routine care to keep her comfortable and thriving. She came to AMA weighing over 20 pounds and has been working toward a healthier weight since. She is otherwise in good health and ready for whatever comes next.

Seneca has been waiting a long time. She has made the most of every day in between, charming everyone who crosses her path and making it abundantly clear that whoever finally takes her home is getting something genuinely special.

Seneca beat every odd that was stacked against her on the day she was rescued. She fought her way back from a crisis that should have been the end of her story and spent the time proving, repeatedly and enthusiastically, that she was worth saving.

All she needs now is someone to walk through the door and see what AMA Animal Rescue has always known.
